Biography

Dr. Thakker has been accorded a Kenyan National award by Rotary International as the best entrepreneur in Kenya in 1999. Kenya Medical Association and Association of Round Tables in East Africa have honored him with top Chairman Awards.

As an award winning medical doctor, entrepreneur and health sector champion, He currently manages and is affiliated with several private companies in the health industry. He holds a Medical Degree from University of Nairobi, an eMBA from NIA in India and has completed Health Leadership training from George Washington University, USA.

CURRENT POSITIONS
Amit actively plays his role as the CEO and a founding Director of Kenya Healthcare Federation www.khf.co.ke, the Health Sector Board for KEPSA. He is the visionary founder of the East Africa Healthcare Federation www.eahf.net and Chair of the EA Health Platform www.eahp.or.tz hosted by East Africa Business Council.

He is the Co-chair of the Private Sector Advisory Panel through UNFPA, Private Sector Advisor with IntraHealth International at FunzoKenya (USAID) and Vice-Chairman of the Public Private Partnership, Health Kenya (PPP HK). Since 2014 he is also the Vice Chair for EA Business Council www.eabc.info and currently on the Council of founding members for the Consortium of National Health Research (CNHR) in Kenya www.cnhrkenya.org

As a founder of Avenue Healthcare www.avenuehealthcare.com Dr. Thakker provides insights as a member of advisory panels to organisations including a private equity firm the Abraaj Group, the Eastern Africa Association www.eaa-lon.co.uk and Association of Social Franchising for Health in Kenya www.asfh.org

He was recently appointed on the Board of EEIG in Germany (European Centre of Expertise of the Healthcare Industry) and Metropolitan Cannon Insurance in Kenya

As a health expert, he has and continues to provide high level advisory and consultancies to developmental partners such as World Bank/IFC, PharmAccess, GIZ, German Healthcare Partnership, trAIDe GMBH, Global Fund among others. In the private sector he is well recognised for his strategic consulting roles with Africa Medical Investments (Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Tanzania), Momentum Africa (South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia), Aetna Incorporated (USA and Dubai), Acacia Medical Centre, Guru Nanak Hospital and Humming Health (Kenya)
